Simon’s New Leash on Life

Simon’s story started with a quiet heartbreak. One morning, we found a carrier at the clinic door. Tucked inside was a handsome, 10-year-old cat with a painful paw injury, and a short, sad note. His owner had been moved to a nursing home, and with no one left to care for him, Simon had lost the only home he’d ever known.

He was confused and in pain, but even so, his gentle nature shone through. We immediately got to work treating his paw, tending to some much-needed dental care, and getting his vaccines up to date. Throughout his recovery, Simon’s true personality emerged. He wasn’t just a patient; he was a soulful companion who soaked up every bit of affection, his purr a rumbling engine of gratitude.

It was clear this distinguished older gentleman wasn’t meant to live in a small enclosure. He deserved more. He deserved a home.

That’s when Simon truly hit the jackpot. He found his forever sanctuary at the NAPSrescues.org 40-acre property.

Today, Simon isn’t just a rescue cat; he’s a resident. He has acres to explore, sunshine to bathe in, and a whole community of other rescued critters to keep him company. But the best part? Simon seems to have decided he’s not a cat at all. He spends his days trotting happily alongside the rescue dogs, convinced he’s just one of the pack, and has fully embraced his new life as the sanctuary’s newest “dog.”

George and Jasper: The Ranch Hands

George and Jasper’s journey began as a bonded pair of strays, dumped on the ranch and left to fend for themselves. They were hungry, lonely, and had every reason to distrust humans.

Understandably, they were wary and skittish, keeping their distance, unsure who they could trust. Earning their trust took time and patience, but we were determined to show them they were finally safe.

Once we were able to gently bring them in, their new life began. They were neutered, brought up to date on all their vaccines, and given a warm, safe place to decompress. The transformation has been a joy to watch.

Those two frightened cats, who once bolted at the sight of people, slowly learned what it meant to be cared for. They discovered the comfort of soft beds and the reliability of a full food bowl.

Today, George and Jasper are cherished residents of the NAPS sanctuary. They’ve decided that while indoor life is cozy, they have an important job to do. You can often find them patrolling the feed storage shed, acting as the ranch’s official (and very serious) pest control team.

From two scared strays just trying to survive, George and Jasper have blossomed into confident, happy members of the sanctuary family, living harmoniously with all the other cats and dogs. They finally know they are home.

Fudge

Fudge, a mini horse with a fractured front leg, was facing euthanasia. But we saw a chance. Treating him like a “big dog,” we devised a custom cast that allowed his leg to heal perfectly. Today, Fudge is happy and sound, living with the other horses on the NAPS ranch and bringing joy to 4H kids.

Juno

Juno, an adorable white puppy, suffered a leg fracture, and her family was unable to afford the needed care. They made the difficult choice to surrender her. We immediately treated her leg and provided all the necessary care. We’re thrilled to report Juno has since been adopted by a new, wonderful family ready to give her a lifetime of love.

Dixie

We learned Dixie, a beautiful thoroughbred, was about to be sent from the racetrack to a slaughter auction. We immediately stepped in, purchased her, and gave her time to de-stress from life at the racetrack. She was retrained and blossomed into a champion hunter jumper for her young rider. Dixie is one of several horses we’ve rescued from the track just before auction, and like the others, she has been retrained for a new life. Today, she lives on the ranch, and like our other retrained horses, she serves as a therapy animal, bringing calm and connection to veterans with PTSD and children with special needs.

Simon II

Found as a tiny, frail orange kitten at a gas station, this sweet boy was battling a respiratory infection and in desperate need of help. After receiving medical care, vaccinations, and neutering, this little fighter made a complete recovery. Today, he is thriving in a loving home with one of our clinic’s technicians, a true testament to the power of a second chance.

Cassidy

Cassidy was found as a stray with a badly fractured front leg. After surgery to repair her leg and receiving all her necessary veterinary care, she’s now completely transformed. She lives her best life on the 40-acre NAPS ranch, where her greatest joy is going for exciting car rides.

Peggy and Ruby

These two adorable pugs, Peggy and Ruby, were surrendered by owners who couldn’t care for their eye injuries. After receiving surgery and veterinary support, their comfort was restored. Because they require daily eye medication, they have found their forever sanctuary here on the NAPS ranch, where they are cherished “chubbos.”

Pogo

Pogo came to us as a stray puppy with a painful neck wound. He bravely underwent surgery and, with treatment and care, made a full recovery. His resilient spirit shone through, and he was soon adopted by a wonderful couple with kids, finding the perfect, loving family to call his own.

Zorro

Zorro, a black lab puppy, was the tiny runt of an abandoned litter in Texas. He was rescued by a volunteer who simply couldn’t leave him behind and adopted him herself. Though he’s described as “a bit crazy,” he is fiercely loved and happily plays in the backyard of his new home, a joyful companion to his rescuer.
